Our Mission
Friends of Brokeback Mountain work to eliminate loneliness,
prejudice, discrimination and violence in the lives of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual,
Heterosexual and Transgender people through outreach, education, research, and
community building, so that they may live full, healthy, and interconnected
lives.
Our Visions
The "Spirit of Brokeback Mountain"
...it means, has meant and will continue to mean so many
things to so many different people.........maybe it's about accepting the beauty
of life in all it's diversity, and that means starting with our own individual
acceptance and proceeding to the other......and the realizing of the destructive
effects of not doing so has on us and on the others......a bit muddled but I
think I know what I mean.....I hope others do too..... -Mario
The spirit of Brokeback Mountain is something that resides
in all of us, but is recognized by few. It's a knowledge of who we are as
individuals, and the inter-connectedness we have. It's the spirit of self
acceptance and love of the beauty in ever other human being. That doesn't mean
we have to like them, but there is beauty there, but we must first be able to
see it in ourselves. - Scott
My own main understanding of Brokeback Mountain’s
spirit... is that everyone has to create the life he himself wants to live
according to his own inner needs and particularities overcoming his fear for
family’s, society’s etc reaction. Fear kills. - Nelly
Everybody has their own inner life, their hidden depths.
The spirit of Brokeback should help us to discover the lives of others, accept
(yes, good word) and embrace them (another good word) and help us understand
that everyone has something precious to share, no matter how unprepossessing the
outside person may be.
I believe there is enough good will in the world to make a real difference, if
we could only get past the superficial differences and petty meanness. Everybody
has something to contribute, and everyone has untapped potential. -MiniAngel
...the spirit of Brokeback Mountain is really the spirit to
accept all the different colours and shades that lie both within ourselves and
others. We could start a whole new conversation regarding acceptance vs.
tolerance. But acceptance is far better than tolerance. Too often we get
tolerance instead, It's just not the same.- HeavenlyOversight

It's a cautionary tale to live without regrets, and to
love without inhibition. - Julieunplugged
...to take risks for one's great love, since the danger to
die and not to have loved/or lived at all, is always there. - Ingmar
The spirit of Brokeback.
To accept and love yourself the way you are, and love and accept others as they
are.
To allow yourself to be loved as you deserve, and treat yourself and others with
the respect they deserve. -CellarDweller
What we're up against is judgment. Or to state it
positively, what we're working towards is a celebration of what makes people
unique. And to be more specific, to celebrate the contribution of our queer
brothers and sisters in our lives, whatever that contribution may be. What we
want is a place where the closet doesn't exist because it's unnecessary. And by
doing that we would be contributing to a radical change in how people perceive
each other, so that differences would arouse interest rather than suspicion,
curiosity rather than fear, and no one would have to hide who they are. -
