FIX IT NEWSLETTER

June, 2008

BUDS This newsletter celebrates two months since the BBM Foundation forum began. Explore The Forum

When you go there you will find: - a General section with a Welcome Thread for new members, a Chat Room, a News and Updates Board to help you keep abreast at a glance and the inevitable Forum Rules. - a Think Tank : that’s where real action (yours!) takes place. - a Library : "All them things we don't know" with relevant articles, books, organizations, movies etc. useful to educate ourselves on various issues and to feed our thinking. - to come: an Organizational section will explore the type of organization we want to set up, how it will be run and funded etc

Discover Our Actions So Far

Despite RL, bouts of ill-health and internet access problems the initial brainstorming phase has yielded some great results. Spurred by a wonderful suggestion offered by Northwind, our first action will be the launch of a WEBSITE meant to help Jacks & Ennises find information useful to cope with the situations they are confronted with in their various countries. MiniAngel actually spotted a researcher in an Australian university who identified the need for information for isolated gay people, especially in rural areas, and wrote to her.

Annie Proulx talked about J&E as uninformed young men http://bbmfoundation.org/forum/index.php?topic=33.msg361#msg361 so hopefully she will like the direction we are going. We plan to write to her to ask permission to use the BBM name.

This website idea is very exciting because it can be set up without major financial input, and since specialist knowledge is not indispensable, it is quite feasible for us dedicated Brokies to volunteer some of our time to collect relevant information. Mountain Mouse has kindly provided pointers on how to proceed on the Ideas thread

Threads are now open for the countries represented so far by members of the forum where you can post links, information and news that could be useful for the future website. They are called One-stop-shop website + country name. Feel free to add more as required, and post to your hearts content.

The original One-stop-shop website thread will be used for all general discussions regarding the future website.

Of course older and not so modern Ennises are unlikely to use internet. We need ideas about how to reach them!

Meet the Organizers

Our Admin/Organization team in alphabetical order so far consists of : Incognita (Administrator), John (Webmaster & Administrator), Kim, Mouk, MountainMouse, Oregondoggie, and Tamarack. Do not hesitate to contact us with your questions, suggestions and comments.

Get Involved

We have a wonderful array of accountants, humanitarians, NPO organizers, medical / social / psychological specialists, and internet tech whizzes on our membership list. You come from a wide range of global and personal situations. We’d love you to start identifying roles you'd like to play. You can do as much or as little as you want, it all helps. For instance, when you stumble across a useful article you may want to post the link in Library. Here are some ideas how you can make a difference for J&Es:

  • collect information for the future website and post it on the One-stop-shop country threads
  • monitor one of these threads.

  • help with writing, presenting and diffusing the Newsletter

  • raise awareness to increase membership

  • help design, run and maintain the website

  • set up small groups to discuss specific ideas: e.g. how to make the future website user-friendly way for fairly uneducated people, how to raise money, how to increase membership, would a foundation or an association be more suitable for our actions etc.

Post in the Ideas thread if you are interested in taking on some of the above tasks or have ideas for other jobs to be done. Give us your feedback. What would you like to see happening on this Forum? And we need more members! If we don’t have anybody we won’t achieve nothing. Talk to your Brokie and non-Brokie friends. Put the Foundation logo in your signature. Post suggestions for raising awareness – on the good old Ideas thread of course! We hope to publish the Fix It Newsletter on a regular basis. And we need your contributions and suggestions.

Let's ride this thin’ together!
